Unboxed Life

Boldly existing outside the box through conscious living and constant learning.

Who am I?

I am Tanner Colton and I am forever obsessed with the pursuit of knowledge, understanding, adventure, and to live an extraordinary life. My greatest desire is to leave behind a legacy of service, love, and unbridled exploration that will outlast my own life. I have traveled in Africa, India, and Europe and continue to volunteer with a group called Village Care International. I started this project with the intention of helping others, as well as myself, break free from conformist thinking and to shatter the expectation of mediocrity that exists in our society. Together with you, my hope is to find a way to serve others and live within the interconnected web of the human race and experience all it has to offer. If you want to know more about my story you can go here.

Who are you?

You crave adventure and seek knowledge with a fierce passion that borders on obsession. You acknowledge that we don’t live independent of each other, but that our individual actions affect every other person who calls this Earth home. The idea of average scares you and the thought of complacency terrifies you. You thirst to live an extraordinary life. You have an open mind and a heart for serving others that is ready to make life happen. You are in the right place!

What is this about?

Many of us exist in boxes. Often times these are boxes of our own creation. Sometimes they are imposed on us by outside forces. But always they are neat, tidy, pre-packaged existences devoid of variation, disorder, or scope. Why do we do this? What are we missing outside our box? How do I get out of my box? What happens if I don’t?

Overall this little patch of internet-earth is centered on the idea that, contrary to how we live most of the time, we are not alone in this life and that there are varied, beautiful, tragic, and unfathomable collections of people, places, and experiences to be understood and respected. Making a conscious choice to acknowledge this fact and to break free from “boxed-living” is what this is all about. Whether through travel, adventure, service, or new experiences, each and every day I seek to find understanding of myself and to immerse myself in the knowledge that our existence is eternally bound to every other person.

I am passionate about these ideas, as I hope you are, but that does not mean that what I write about or the things we explore are the only way to unbox your life. The topics and ideology within this project are not for everyone and will not make you a “better” person than someone who leaves now. If these ideas don’t appeal to you or you are comfortable and happy with the life you lead, great! Go forth and conquer. If you are moved by the idea of escaping your boxes and living an extraordinary life then I welcome you and hope you find what you are looking for here.

What will I write about?

Twice a week, every Wednesday and Saturday, I will publish a post that deals in some way with “unboxing” our thinking and our actions. Topics might include:

–          The interconnectedness of human kind and our responsibility to honor and explore that connection

–          The recognition that the world is far larger than what we see, feel, and do each day and that to truly live we must experience it to our deepest core

–          A responsibility to live consciously and to move through our lives with the knowledge that every one of our actions affects someone else

–          The idea that living for the sole benefit of oneself is to disgrace and defile the gift of life and to make service to others a vital part of the human experience

–          Solutions for tearing down your box and breaking free from the confines of our concrete and cardboard cells and drinking in the unimaginable beauty of what lies before us

–          Being an example to people in your life and inspire others to break down their box

–          How to live an extraordinary life and create something that will outlast our own lives

My promise to you

I don’t claim to have all the answers or possess some magic spell for curing what ails your mind. What I can promise is that with everything I do I will seek to share my experiences with you in the hope that inspiration, knowledge, or understanding will lead you in the right direction. I will strive to create content that you want and need and that is true to the spirit of this project. In every post, product, guide, or book my motivations are to grow along with you toward a life centered on understanding, service, adventure, and breaking free from the boxes we live and think in. Through this pursuit I hope you can find what you seek and can join me on this adventure called life. Are you ready?

I agree with the above said. Great stuff. Very interesting. We are blips and it’s good to know it. Tiny, tiny specs. We’ve only come a long way relative to the world and to what we knew before. And we’re damn proud of our pen just tip-tapping the longest hallway covered in paper..
